Petroceltic strikes out with Mesaha wildcat

Irish explorer Petroceltic International has said it will plug and abandon its Mesaha 1 wildcat in Egypt's western desert after the wildcat found no hydrocarbon indicators.

The Dublin-based outfit said that the southern Egypt exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 6985 feet by the EDC 9 rig at a gross cost of $10.3 million.

The first well on the block, it had aimed to test the prospectivity of a sedimentary basin in the Ordovician, Silurian and older formations.

Petroceltic said the probe had nonetheless “provided significant new data on the Mesaha basin stratigraphy which will be incorporated in a review of the regional geology prior to optimising any future work plans for the block”.
