Ready for work: Transocean Arctic at Skarfjell

Drilling is set to kick off shortly at a pair of key exploration probes off Norway after they were given final clearance by the country’s safety authority.

Germany’s Wintershall is targeting an appraisal well at its Skarfjell light oil discovery in production licence 418 in the northern North Sea using semi-submersible Transocean Arctic.

Drilling on the main 35/9-8 well, with a subsequent sidetrack 35/9-8A, is set to start this month and expected to take 140 days.

Spanish explorer Repsol has lined up another Transocean rig, Transocean Barents, to drill the  7218/11-1 wildcat at the Darwin prospect in PL531 in the Barents Sea that is set to be spudded in the first quarter, with a duration of around 48 days.
