Eni has made a fresh oil discovery with an exploration well in Egypt’s Western Desert that is set to boost output from the Meleiha concession in which the Italian giant is a partner.

The Rosa North 1X probe drilled in the block struck around 80 metres of oil pay in multiple good-quality sandstones and flowed 43 degree to 48 degree API oil “at very good rates” in reservoir testing, the company said in a statement.

Eni and its partners are now looking to bring on stream the discovery from two development wells set to be drilled this year, targeting production of 2000 barrels per day from each well.
