Chevron pushes Mafumeira Sul button

Chevron has given the green light to the second stage of development of the Mafumeira field off Angola.

The John Watson-led US supermajor has taken the final investment decision on the $5.6 billion Mafumeira Sul project, it revealed on Wednesday.

The monster project, situated in Block 0, calls for 50 wells, two wellhead platforms, a central processing and compression facility and approximately 121 kilometres of subsea pipelines.

The project would follow the initial development, Mafumeira Norte, which achieved first oil in 2009 and currently produces 40,000 barrels of oil per day.
