Stepping down: BP's Byron Grote to retire in April

BP executive vice president and former chief financial officer Byron Grote is to retire in April after 33 years with the British supermajor.

BP chief executive Bob Dudley praised the fellow American who he said “played key roles in critical moments of the company's history”.

Dudley cited the integrations of Amoco and Arco in the late 1990s and early 2000s, as well as “guiding BP through the financial challenges” that came in the wake of the Macondo disaster as being among Grote’s most significant achievements.

A member of BP’s board since 2000, 64-year-old Grote held a string of top jobs with the British supermajor over recent decades, most recently as executive vice president for corporate business activities.
