Gas discovery: Chevron hits pay with Carnarvon Basin probe

Chevron said it has discovered gas off Australia with its Kentish Knock South 1 well in the Exmouth Plateau area of the Carnarvon basin.

Kentish Knock South-1 encountered around 75 metres of net gas pay in the upper Mungaroo Sands, the explorer said.

Chevron's upstream boss in the region Melody Meyer said the find was “an important addition to our queue of high-quality offshore natural gas opportunities in Australia".

She added that the discovery "further supports our long-term plans to expand our Australian LNG position”.

The WA-365-P permit area well, which lies around 280 kilometres north of Exmouth, was drilled in 1168 metres of water to a total depth of 3065 metres.
