Power play: ABB scoops electrical systems works on Brazil drillships

Zurich-based power and automation group ABB has said it has been hired by Jurong Shipyard to provide electrical systems for seven newbuild drillships bound for Brazil in orders worth $160 million.

ABB said it would provide design, supply, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning of the main electrical systems for the seven drillships under the new contracts.

ABB head of process automation Veli-Matti Reinikkala called the wins “a breakthrough for ABB in the Brazilian market,” and credited the company’s track record with Jurong Shipyard on projects in Singapore for the coup.

The Swiss outfit said its integrated electrical package would provide a reliable power supply to subsystems onboard and help maximize energy efficiency.
