Emu: Karoon Gas has started drilling a second Santos basin exploration well off Brazil

Australia’s Karoon Gas has started drilling its second exploration well in the Santos basin off Brazil.

The semi-submersible Black Dolphin spudded the Emu-1 well, which is located in Blocks S-M-1102 and S-M-1037 off the coast of the Santa Catarina region of Brazil, on Sunday morning.

The well is targeting several geological levels including the Santonian, Campanian and Miocene.

It is expected to take up until about the beginning of April to be drilled, Karoon said on Monday.

Following this, the Black Dolphin is expected to move to drill the Bilby-1 well in Block S-M-1166.
