Range 'hits new pay' with Trinidad probe

Upscale: Deepening uncovers new oil zone, says Australia's Range Resources

Australian independent Range Resources has said it has struck new oil pay with the deepening of its QUN 135 well onshore Trinidad.

The AIM- and ASX-listed explorer said that open hole logs showed 50 feet of new net oil pay at a depth of between 3490 feet and 3540 feet in the Middle Cruse formation.

“Offset well control indicates that the identified reservoir section has significant areal extent,” the company added.

Range Resources executive director Peter Landau said that forthcoming production testing would establish how best to develop the new zone, adding that it showed the untapped potential of the company’s Trinidad acreage.

The well was deepened from 3500 feet after logging indicated the presence of additional resistive oil sands.
