Off the map: Statoil unsuccessful with Nanna wildcat

Statoil is to plug and abandon its wildcat well on the Nanna prospect after it proved to be a dry well, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has said.

Diamond Offshore's Ocean Vanguard drilled the PL169 probe to a vertical depth of 2213 metres in 130 metres of water.

Situated about nine kilometres northeast of the Norwegian operator’s Grane field, the well’s primary target was to prove petroleum in the Eocene Balder formation, the NPD said.

It also sought hydrocarbons in Upper Jurassic sandstones in the Draupne formation.

The NPD said that “reservoir development was not proven in either of these levels and the well is classified as dry”.

Statoil holds a 57% stake in the PL169, with partners Petoro (30%) and ExxonMobil (13%).
