Rosneft adds Arctic tracts to ExxonMobil pact

Rosneft has confirmed that it is adding seven newly awarded Arctic licence areas to expand its existing partnership pact with ExxonMobil for exploration in the frontier region.

The tracts covering 600,000 square-kilometres in the Chukchi, Laptev and Kara seas are among 12 licences recently awarded to the Russian state oil company, with the remaining five blocks in the Barents Sea.

Furthermore, Rosneft is being granted an option to acquire a 25% stake in the US supermajor’s Point Thomson natural gas and condensate project in Alaska.
