US rig count: Rose by three this week

The count of rigs drilling in the US for oil and gas rose by three this week to total 1762, according to the latest tally from Houston service firm Baker Hughes released Friday.

The count of oil units active rose by seven to 1337, while the number drilling for gas fell by four to 421.

That compares to totals of 1272 oil units and 716 gas rigs active a year ago.

Texas saw the largest change in its rig count, adding 14 units for a total of 838.

Wyoming added a single rig for a total of 47.

Pennsylvania dropped five rigs, the most of any state, bringing its total to 66.

Oklahoma’s count dropped by two for a total of 194.
