'Challlenges': on Cat-D semisubs for Songa

Norwegian rig contractor Songa Offshore has appointed a troubleshooter to bring into line its reportedly problematic newbuild programme for so-called Category D rigs that are contracted with Statoil.

Bjornar Iversen is set to take the reins as president of  the Songa Rig subsidiary with responsibility for handling commercial relations with Statoil on rig contracts off Norway.

Acting chief executive Jens Wilhelmsen said the appointment of Iversen, who will move over from his current role as president of Odfjell Drilling’s subsidiary in Brazil, “will strengthen our management capacity” and give the contractor a more hands-on role in addressing rig issues going forward.
