Topsides prize: the Aasta Hansteen Spar

Netherlands-based contractor CB&I has confirmed the $180 million award from Hyundai Heavy Industries for engineering work on the topsides of Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen Spar to be built by the South Korean yard.

The company said the workscope of the contract would include detailed engineering design and procurement services for the 21,000-tonne topsides to sit atop what will be the world’s largest Spar facility – and the first to be installed off Norway.

Hyundai last month won the $1.1 billion fabrication award for the topsides and will also build the hull of the production facility, which is due to be installed at the Statoil-operated field in the Norwegian Sea in 2016.

CB&I is set to start work on the contract in the first quarter.
