Blueprint: the Arctic drillship is based on Inocean's INO-80 concept

Norwegian ship design and engineering outfit Inocean has developed a new drillship concept for work in Arctic conditions.

The vessel, dubbed IN-ICE and based on the company’s INO-80 concept, is winterised with its drilling equipment and other areas completely enclosed to avoid ice formation for work in extreme sub-zero temperatures.

The drillship, with PC-4 ice classification, also has expanded equipment storage and logistics capability to enable it to work for extended periods at remote Arctic locations a long distance from shore.

Project manager Jorgen Jorde said the vessel has both thruster-assisted turret mooring for work in shallow-water areas as well as dynamic positioning for deep-water operation.
