Weighty task: floatover of processing platform at B-193 field

Offshore construction contractor Swiber has carried out the first-ever floatover installation on a field development off India.

The Singapore-based player installed the 13,000-tonne processing platform and 8000-tonne living quarters module at the B-193 field for Indian state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), as well as bridges and flares.

The complex operation at the field off Mumbai was performed  the contractor’s derrick pipelay barge Swiber PJW3000 along with two floatover barges, Holmen Atlantic and Holmen Pacific, as well as a number of support vessels.

The floatover installation method is being increasingly used by operators as topside weights exceed  crane lifting capacities.
