US rig count down by one

Rig count: down by one

The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US fell by one this week for a total of 1761, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

There were eight fewer rigs drilling for oil - a total of 1329 - and seven additional rigs drilling for gas, for a total of 428.

Oklahoma took the biggest hit this week, shedding nine rigs for a total of 185. Kansas was up one on 26.

Texas was up five on 843. The Permian basin of Texas alone gained about five rigs for a total of about 359.

New Mexico lost one for 75.

Louisiana was down one for 109. Mississippi was flat on 12. Arkansas was up one on 16.
