French contractor gains technology qualification for power units on gas compression project off Norway

Schneider Electric has successfully qualified power equipment for Statoil’s Aasgard subsea gas compression project off Norway.

The French contractor’s controls power distribution unit has now passed the stringent technology qualification tests for the giant subsea facility being developed by Aker Solutions under a Nkr3.4 billion ($590 million) contract with the Norwegian state oil company.

The equipment was subjected to shock, vibration and temperature testing to pass the ISO standard for subsea production systems and qualification means fabrication of the unit can now be started.

The compression facility –almost the size of a soccer field - is due to be deployed on the seabed in 2015…
