Start up: York platform begins production

UK natural gas player Centrica Energy said on Friday that it has started production at its York platform in the UK North Sea.

The field, 100% owned by Centrica's upstream unit, will produce around 120 million cubic feet per day of gas at its peak from a 2750-tonne unmanned platform.

The gas will be exported to the company's Easington terminal in East Yorkshire via a 34-kilometre, 16-inch pipeline.

The development, located 40 kilometres east of Humberside in a water depth of 45 metres, is Centrica's third major greenfield project in as many years. The company also operates the Ensign and F3-FA platforms in the North Sea.
