US rig count falls by four

Rig count: down by four for 1757

The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US fell by four this week to 1757, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

Oil rigs rose by four to 1333 and gas rigs fell by eight to 420, according to the weekly tally.

Louisiana was the big loser this week, shedding five rigs for a total of 104. Mississippi was down one to 11.

Arkansas was up one on 17.

Texas lost two for 841. The Barnett shale lost about four rigs for a count of around 50. The Permian basin was up five to around 364.

New Mexico was up two on 77.

Oklahoma was also up two on 187. Kansas was flat on 26.
