Further leak hits Taqa's Cormorant A

Another hydrocarbons release has seen Taqa Bratani shut down its Cormorant Alpha platform in the North Sea for the second time this year.

Over 70 workers were evacuated from the platform after the leak was discovered on Saturday morning in a single platform let during maintenance work.

Taqa did not specify the nature of the hydrocarbons which were released but said the leak has been contained and stopped and was confined to the inside of the leg, never escaping into the environment.

Taqa said it had "removed 71 non-essential personnel from the platform via crew change flights" and no injuries were reported.

"The platform and all pipeline infrastructure were shut down as a precaution.
