Kulluk: the drilling barge will be transported to Asia for repairs

Shell's Kulluk drill barge has arrived in Unalaska where it will wait before making its journey to Asia for repairs.

Local media said the rig would now be towed to a specialised dock in Captain’s Bay where it wait for the Xiang Rui Kou heavy-lift vessel, which left China on Sunday, to take it an Asian yard.

Shell spokesperson Curtis Smith was quoted in local media as saying Shell had not yet chosen a shipyard to carry out repairs to the vessel.

Kulluk was damaged when it slipped its tow lines and ran aground off Alaska's uninhabited Sitkalidak Island at the start of the year.
