Death on Transocean rig off UK

A man has died after a fall on a Transocean-owned drilling unit off the UK on Tuesday.

Police and other emergency services responded to the early-morning incident on the Sedco 712 berthed at a harbour in Invergordon.

A Transocean spokesperson said that the death was not work related, however.

The man has not been identified but Transocean confirmed that the deceased was an employee of the company.

A statement from the UK’s Northern Constabulary said: “The matter has been reported to the Health & Safety Executive. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The Sedco 712 is a Sedco 711-design semi-submersible capable of operating in water depths up to 1600 feet.
