Bass gets Otway renewal

Reneway: Bass has has been given another five years on PEP 167, on the south-east coast of Australia

Australia-listed Bass Strait Oil has received approval for the renewal of its exploration permit, PEP 167, in the Otway basin, onshore the Australian state of Victoria.

The renewal covers a five-year period over the permit which Bass believes is prospective for the Waare conventional gas play and the Casterton oil shale play.

Bass said on Thursday that it currently holds a large acreage holding over the central Victorian sector of the Otway basin which contains both conventional and unconventional prospects and leads.

Its permits straddle main gas pipelines which deliver gas to markets in both South Australia and Victoria, which means any discovery could be quickly commercialised, according to the company.

Bass holds a 100% interest in PEP 167.
