Total-Central JV launches $60m campaign in Oz

Central Australia: a joint venture between Central Petroleum and Total has entered a $60-million exploration phase in the Southern Georgina basin

Australian explorer Central Petroleum has been granted three authority to prospect (ATP) permits in central Australia’s Southern Georgina basin.

Central managing director Richard Cottee said on Thursday that the award of the blocks ATP 909, 911 and 912 in the Australian state of Queensland marked the start of a US$60 million (A$57.8 million) stage one exploration phase targeting potential shale reserves around the Boulia area.

“The indicative geology of the Arthur Creek shales show a lot of promise with indicative thickness of around 300 metres and total organic carbon in the range of 2(%) to 16%,” he said in a statement.
