COSL charters Nanhai 7 for CNOOC drilling

Huizhou bound: Nanhai 7 to appraise CNOOC field

China Oilfield Service Ltd (COSL), the country’s largest offshore service provider, has chartered the Nanhai 7 deep-water semi-submersible for drilling in the South China Sea.

The rig, formally known as Pride South Seas, left Shenzhen Yiulian Shipyard on Friday on a five-year charter for appraisal drilling at the Huizhou 27-1-2 field

Operated by COSL’s sister company China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the field is located in water depths of 117 metres with drilling designed to reach depths of 2800 metres.

The Nanhai 7, a warm stacked Aker H3 semi-sub, was bought by China ICBC Leasing last December from Ensco. It took about a month tow this unit from Namibia back to Shenzhen Yiulian by Cosco’s Xiang Rui…
