Statoil has been forced to shut down production at its Oseberg B platform off Norway after a power failure led to a gas leak, with some personnel now being evacuated from the area.

An initial power outage occurred around 17:00 CET on Thursday during well operations, causing a gas leak from the well that triggered the alarm, and the facility was shut down in line with safety procedures, Statoil said in a statement on Friday.

Personnel were mustered to lifeboats and onshore emergency services were mobilised, although power was restarted before 18:30, halting the leak, and the situation was normalised.
