Prospector orders new rig pair

Prospector Offshore Drilling has exercised options for a pair of additional high-specification jack-up newbuilds at Chinese yard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) at a cost of around $220 million apiece.

The latest orders for the Friede & Goldman JU-2000E-design harsh-environment rigs bring to six the total number of newbuilds the Oslo-listed rig contractor has under construction at both SWS and compatriot builder Dalian Shipbuilding, with four and two units on order at the yards respectively.

The rigs, designed and outfitted for work in the North Sea off the UK, Netherlands and Denmark, are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2015 and first quarter of 2016.
