Magnolia fails to blossom for Dana

Dry well: the Magnolia well was drilled using Diamond Offshore's semi-submersible Ocean Nomad

Aberdeen-based Dana Petroleum has come up dry at its Magnolia prospect on Block 13/23a in the UK continental shelf region of the North Sea.

The well reached a total depth of 4920 feet, intersecting primary targets in the Captain, Coracle and Punt sandstones within the Lower Cretaceous interval.

However, well partner Trapoil said no significant hydrocarbons were encountered in the well which will now be plugged and abandoned.

Dana operates the the P 1610 licence with a 45% stake and is partnered by Trapoil (10%), Summit Petroleum (25%) and Atlantic Petroleum (20%).
