Qatar primes Dolphin taps

By Anthea Pitt

Qatar will begin exporting gas to the United Arab Emirates through the Dolphin pipeline network from next month, a senior official from Qatar Petroleum (QP) said.

The export pipelines were ready four months ago and the project is being commissioned in June, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, QP's director of oil and gas ventures said.

"It's a great achievement for Qatar and the UAE," Al Kaabi told a conference in Doha.

Ahmed Al Noaimi, chief executive of Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (Apicorp), said that the Middle East and North Africa region required $395 billion worth of investment in private and public oil and gas and related projects between 2007 and 2011.

he said 64% of these investments will be needed in the Gulf Arab states alone, but he cautioned that rising project costs may slow down the investment flow.
