Leak shuts in Shell Nigeria flows

A leak on a major oil export pipeline in Nigeria has forced Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell to shut another 77,000 barrels per day, a spokesman said today.

The pipeline leak occurred on 25 May on the Nembe pipeline in the southern state of Bayelsa and the company is trying to gain access to the site to begin repairs, he added.

A further 150,000 barrels remainded shut in on another Shell pipeline nearby as local community members extended a protest into a third day.
