Keppel Fels is set to build another ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rig for drilling giant Ensco International in a $427 million deal.
The new rig, the Ensco 8503, is expected to be delievered in the third quarter of 2010.
Ensco has already ordered three 8500 series rigs from the Singaporean company - the Ensco 8500 and Ensco 8501 will be delivered in the second quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 respectively, while the the Ensco 8502 is expected to be delivered by the end of 2009,
Ensco chief executive Daniel Rabun said: "Today marks another milestone in our commitment to our strategic objective of expanding our deep-water fleet through our Ensco 8500 Series proprietary design semi-submersible rigs. We are taking a balanced approach toward our objective of delivering long-term shareholder value."
The 8500 Series rigs are capable of drilling in up to 8500 feet of water and can be upgraded to 10,000 feet water-depth capability, Ensco said.
