Java fire: Three hurt in blaze at East Java oilfield

Three workers were hospitalised with burns after a fire broke out during routine maintenance at an oilfield off East Java operated by PetroChina and Indonesia’s Pertamina, reports said.

Local reports said the incidents had occurred at Pad B of the Sukowati oilfield.

Three employees of drilling contractor PT Nana Yamano Technik were hospitalised with burns, according to Indonesian news site Detik.

Two oil wells were shut in after the fire, curtailing output by 4000 barrels per day of oil, Indonesian oil & gas regulator SKKMigas told Reuters.

The wells are expected to take at least five days to repair but the shutdown has not affected other wells in the area, the regulator added.

The affected area was producing 25,477 bpd before the shutdown, according to SKKMigas.

The two state players jointly operate several fields in the region under the Pertamina-Petrochina East Java (PPEJ) joint operating body.
