Eversendai inks $180m liftboat deal

Malaysian contractor Eversendai Offshore is targeting increased work in the oil & gas sphere after tying down a $180 million liftboat newbuild deal.

The Kuala Lumpur-based offshoot of Eversendai Corporation is building two Gusto MSC NG-2500X-design units for Vahana Offshore.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract will see Eversendai’s facility at RAK Maritime City, Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates deliver the units in February and May 2016.

Each will have a 300-tonne crane, dynamic positioning capability and accommodation space for at least 150 people.

“Eversendai Group’s foray into the oil & gas offshore and marine sectors … will see us actively partake in the engineering, procurement and construction of jack-up rigs, liftboats and related equipment; upgrade and refurbishment of offshore jack up rigs; newbuild construction for the offshore oil & gas sector including floating production, storage and offloading systems and other offshore and onshore modular structures as well as oilfield engineering services, such as the upgrade, refurbishment and newbuild of land rigs,” the company said.

“This contract is particularly exciting to us as it supports our strategic decision to establish our offshore oil & gas and marine operations and is in line with our strategy to strengthen our foothold in the Middle East.”
