Alberta, Mexico agree regulatory tie-up

Sharing expertise: Regulators from Alberta and Mexico agree co-operation deal

The Alberta Energy Regulator has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mexico's Comision Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH) to develop regulatory best practices for the development of hydrocarbons.

Under the MoU the two agencies will exchange regulatory expertise in developing oil & gas resources.

"As Mexico's energy system opens up and attracts foreign and private investment it is imperative that we share experiences and expertise with other regulators," said CNH president, Juan Carlos Zepeda Molina.

The agencies will create best practice regulations and monitoring methods, specifically in the areas of shale gas development and enhanced oil recovery, among others.
