AWE spuds in Perth basin

Perth basin: AWE spuds

Australia-listed AWE has spudded an exploration well in the Perth basin in Western Australia on Sunday night, local time.

The Drover-1 well in EP 455 started drilling ahead and was at a depth of 141 metres at last report.

It will be drilled to a vertical planned depth of 2400 metres and is expected to take about four weeks to finish.

AWE said the well was designed to test the unconventional gas potential in the southern area of the Perth basin acreage, targeting the Kockatea and Carynginia shale formations, the Irwin River coal measures and the High Cliff sandstones.

The company plans to collect samples and analysis to help determine the next phase of work.

Drover-1 is located just north of Perth and is operated by AWE, which holds an 81.50% interest.

Titan Energy holds the remaining 18.50%.
