CATS out of action 'until September'

By Upstream staff

Repairs to the Central Area Transmission System (CATS) North Sea pipeline are expected to take more than a month, meaning the gas link will not reopen until some time in September, operator BP said today.

"It has been determined that the pipeline has suffered damage and a permanent repair will be required before the pipeline is safe to start up," the company said in a statement released today.

The CATS pipeline which carries associated gas from a cluster of North Sea gas fields to the UK was shut in on 1 July after being damaged by a ship's anchor.
