Desert quest: Canada's Loon Energy has decided to case its Bhayra Rigo-1 spud despite being unable to log the well
Loon leap of faith at Jorf
Calgary-based Loon Energy is to case its Bhayra Rigo-1 well on Tunisia’s Jorf permit to a depth of 1400 metres after striking a thick dolomite reef, but normal logging of the well has been prevented by a loss of circulation, the company said.
Loon said circulation was lost when the top of the reef was struck at 1126 metres, making it impossible to recover drilling samples for a 300 metre interval.
The company said it was prevented from running open-hole tests of likely intervals by local safety regulations and for other technical reasons. It said the well would now be tested through casing perforations.
The onshore Jorf permit covers an area of about 1 million acres.
