Antrim on course in Tierra del Fuego

By Upstream staff

Canadian explorer Antrim Energy has started a two-year drilling programme in the Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, spudding the LP-1009 well in the Los Patos field.

Antrim said the well lies about half a kilometre north-west of the LP-1005 oil find.

The drilling programme, backed by a two-year drilling contract with Quintana WellPro, will initially target oil reservoirs in the Cretaceous Springhill formation at depth of about 2300 metres in the Los Patos area.

Nine drilling locations have already been built and work is continuing to prepare other locations. Each well is expected to take between two and three weeks to drill and case.

Antrim said at least two years of further drilling is planned on the Tierra del Fuego licences. Initial results from the drilling program will be released at the end of the third quarter.

The company added that work on new oil and gas production facilities in Tierra del Fuego is on schedule for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.
