Atwood plans Richmond overhaul

By Upstream staff

Houston-based Atwood Oceanics is to spend up to $15 million to upgrade its cantilever submersible rig Richmond following the completion of its present contract in the Gulf of Mexico with Helis Oil and Gas.

Atwood said the rig would drill one more well for Helis, and that it would delay the start of its following existing contract until sometime in the first half of next year. The work on the rig was expected to take about 60 days to complete, it said.

The company said the upgrade was expected to extend the working life of the rig by about seven years.

Atwood said it was seeking other work for the rig to be carried out immediately after the upgrade.
