MEO Australia said today it expected to take delivery of the West Atlas jack-up rig by the end of the month, after which it will be used to drill the Heron-2 well in Block NT/P68 of the Timor Sea.
The West Atlas has completed its endurance testing, inspections and compliance approvals at the Keppel Fels shipyard in Singapore and was scheduled to be released later today to owner Seadrill.
Following the official naming ceremony on 15 September, the rig will be loaded in Singapore onto the Blue Marlin heavy transport vessel for delivery into Darwin harbour by the end of September, MEO said.
The West Atlas will then be provisioned and wet towed to the Heron-2 well, with drilling expected to begin on or around 6 October.
Meanwhile, MEO said further processing of the 3D seismic data acquired by the company over the Epenarra and Heron structures in 2006 had now been completed.
The company said the inversion studies carried out by Fugro had increased the company’s confidence in the potential presence of hydrocarbons in the main reservoir units.
