Sonatrach eyes Gassi Touil date

By Upstream staff

Algeria's state-run Sonatrach could start production from the Gassi Touil gas field in 2012, a senior company official said today.

"Production could start in 2012," Chawki Rahal, vice-president in charge of marketing, told Reuters on the sidelines of a gas conference in Paris.

Last week Sonatrach announced it was claiming substantial damages from Spain's Repsol YPF and Gas Natural for their failure to meet terms of the Gassi Touil joint venture.

When asked whether Sonatrach would look for new partners to develop the project he said: "We will see about that."
