Path to CBM: Australia's Surat basin
Rawson tees up CBM seismic
Australia’s Rawson Resources is making moves for to shoot a 3D seismic as it gets set to kick off the hunt for coalbed methane at permits in two Australian basins.
Rawson said it will carry out a 3D seismic programme in early 2008 at the newly-awarded ATP 837P in the Surat basin.
The permit has excellent CBM potential in the Walloon coal measures, Rawson said.
Drilling of CBM wells is expected once the seismic data has been processed late next year.
Rawson is in talks with several CBM operators to help finance the project.
Rawson currently has a 50% interest in ATP 837P, with Energetica Resources holding the remaining 50%, although Rawson’s interest would be reduced once a farm-out agreement is concluded.
Rawson also said it is seeking partners for seismic and drilling at its 100%-owned EP97 permit in the Pedirka basin.
Rawson said the permit has CBM potential is in Permian coals, at depths of 300 to 1000 metres.
