Songa Mercur extends its stay

By Upstream staff

Norway’s Songa Offshore said today that Australia’s Santos has exercised its first option on the semi-submersible drilling rig Songa Mercur.

The current contract, which runs for nine months from 22 July, has been extended by three months through the declared option and will now end in July next year.

The Songa Mercur is currently working in the Carnarvon basin, off Western Australia.

Songa also said that Japan's Inpex had decided to exercise its second six-month option on the semisub Songa Venus.

The day rate for the extension is set at $225,500 per day, with the contract due to end on 25 October 2008.
