Independent oil and gas producer Anadarko Petroleum said today its third-quarter profit dropped almost 64% as natural gas prices fell from a year earlier.
Earnings were $504 million, or $1.07 per diluted share, compared with $1.39 billion, or $2.99 per diluted share in the same period a year earlier, the Houston-based company said. Income from continuing operations was $1.10 per share.
Revenue declined to $3.03 billion from $3.51 billion, with gas sales falling to $871 million from $1.55 billion, a year earlier.
Chief executive officer Jim Hackett said that based on its performance, Anadarko was reaffirming the midpoint of its production forecast of 191 million barrels of oil equivalent, while narrowing the range of full-year 2007 estimates to 190 million to 192 million boe.
"We also have additional confidence in our ability to continue to deliver 5-9% production growth from our retained properties in 2008 and beyond," he said, Reuters reported.
Hackett said the company met its third-quarter production guidance, despite facing shut-ins of approximately 700,000 boe as a result of infrastructure disruptions in the Rockies - most of which were natural gas.
Third-quarter sales volumes of natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids totaled 47 million boe, or 510,000 boe per day. Third-quarter natural gas sales volumes averaged 1.64 billion cubic feet per day, at an average price of $5.78 per thousand cubic feet. In the 2006 third quarter, Anadarko said gas sales averaged 1.69 billion cubic feet per day at an average price of $9.93 per thousand cubic feet.
Oil sales volumes in the third quarter averaged 198,000 barrels per day, at an average price of $69.25 per barrel. Natural gas liquids sales volumes averaged 39,000 bpd, at an average price of $48.39 per barrel.
