Prosafe takes shine to Azurite

By Upstream staff

Norwegian offshore services group Prosafe has won a $400 million floating drilling, production, storage and offloading vessel conversion job for US player Murphy Oil's Azurite development, in the deep-water Mer Profonde Sud Block, off Congo-Brazzaville.

"This is the first time an FPSO will be developed comprising a mobile drilling rig. The estimated contract value of the firm period is $400 million," Prosafe said in a statement.

Prosafe will be responsible for the conversion of the floater, including the moonpool arrangement, but not for provision, integration and operation of the drilling rig.

Prosafe will use the VLCC MT Europe and after conversion the vessel, which will be spread-moored in water depths of 1400 metres, will have a storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels of oil.

The contract is expected to start in the first quarter of 2009 and has a firm period of seven years followed by four two-year options.
