Don Juan partners test first well

By Upstream staff

Australia-based Bow Energy has completed drilling at the first exploration well of the Don Juan coalbed methane gas joint venture in Queensland’s Surat basin and will begin production testing later this week.

The Taringa South-1 well is the first of a planned three-well CBM exploration drilling programme.

A test over the open hole section of the well flowed methane gas to surface at a stabilised rate of 370,000 cubic feet per day, joint venture partner Victoria Petroleum said.

Wire line logs indicated the well intersected a total of 17 metres of coal, with 11 metres within the open hole section.

The drill crew is now scheduled to take a break and will return late next week to commence the second exploration well, Orallo North-1.

The joint venture partners plan to case and suspend the initial exploration wells as future pilot production holes in order to carry out flow and production testing.

Assuming positive results, a process of reserve certification should begin in early 2008.

Partners in the Don Juan venture are Bow (45%), Victoria (45%) and Roma CBM (10%).
