Gazprom bumps up Shtokman numbers

By Upstream staff

Russia's Gazprom has revised the reserves figure for the Shtokman gas field, pegging them at 3.8 trillion cubic metres rather than the original estimate of 3.7 Tcm. The move follows a series of new studies at the massive Barents Sea field.

The gas export monopoly also said it would set up a joint operating company with France's Total and Norway's StatoilHydro to manage the first phase of the offshore project. The company will be in place by 20 December.
