Australia’s Bow Energy has begun drilling operations at the second exploration well of the Don Juan coalbed methane gas joint venture in Queensland's Surat basin.
Orallo North-1 has been designed to determine coal thickness, estimate gas contents and assess dewatering capabilities of the Orallo North area, Bow said.
The well is not expected to flow free gas.
The joint venture’s previous well in the area - Taringa South-1 – flowed gas at a rate of 370,000 cubic feet per day.
Bow is operating the Don Juan joint venture with a 45% interest. Its partners are Victoria Petroleum (45%) and Roma CBM (10%).
