Finland ponies up for biofuels pilot

By Upstream staff

Finland's Ministry for Industry said today it would grant €7 million ($10 million) to NSE Biofuels Oy's demonstration plant, the total cost of which has risen to €20.8 million from €14 million.

NSE Biofuels is a joint venture formed by the paper and board maker Stora Enso and refiner Neste Oil .

The two companies said in March they would jointly develop technology for producing biofuels from wood residues, building a demonstration plant at Stora's mill in Varkaus, Finland, set to be operational in 2008.
